From 1881 until the second world war this was a butcher's shop; it then became an electrical shop and a "cycle agent". In the 1970s it was Material Effects, an interior design and fabric shop. It was then a café, and is now occupied by a private GP and dental practice.
[PB: So for nearly 100 years there were two butcher shops in the Rd? And wasn't there another further up, where Sainsbury's Local is now?]

Through the archway to its right was a yard where Mr Miller the butcher kept his horses and delivery vehicles. Later it belonged to Sutcliffe's Builders, and is now known as "the Courtyard" - the wooden door is relatively new.
