JP (2017, e.2020):
From 1907 until early in the war this was Pike's tobacconist and confectioner. In 1945 it became Vernon's, a tobacconist and toyshop.
In 1979 it was taken over as a clothes shop by Patsy Hayes who named it Phase 8 (a combination of her name and the house number). It was very successful and the Phase 8 chain expanded enormously, with shops in many areas and concessions in department stores. Sadly, since we started research on this project this branch has closed. It reopened as Shona Mac, selling luxury and designer used clothes.
