Station is rocked as rail bomb explodes
A bomb rocked a railway station in London today when it exploded in a junction box beside the line. ’lphe blast brought chaos for rush-hour commuters.
Debris was hurled across three tracks just yards from a footbridge at Wandsworth Common station.
But no-one was hurt in the blast which came 30 minutes after a warning call to police.

Services on its four lines were halted while tracks and build-2’ were searched as hundreds commuters were evacuated.
The bomb went off shortly after 7am in a junction box beside the line at Wandsworth Common in south-west London.

Today’s explosion came just 11 days after the IRA bomb blast at London Bridge Station in which 28 people were hurt.
The bomb warning was qlven in a call to Westminster Hosital at about 6.30 am, said a Scotland Yard spokesman.
The caller used a code word but did not say when the device would go off. No-one had claimed responsibility, he added.
Network South East divisional director Chris Jago said the warniong specified that the bomb was at Wandsworth Common station.
But the explosion was half-a-mile from the location the caller gave.
