Wandsworth Common

The GLC planned to widen Wandsworth Bridge as part of a major road improvement scheme, but Wandsworth Council was concerned at the extra traffic this would bring into the borough. The GLC said the scheme was in conjunction with improvements on the north bank in Hammersmith, its purpose being "to improve Townmead Road to a sufficient standard to enable it to provide one of the two southernmost connections linking the southern end of the West Cross Route proposal, from Holland Park Avenue to Chelsea Basin, into the existing metropolitan road network."
