Two Turks and a Cambridge Student — A "College Man" of Wandsworth Common
A pair of venerably-bearded Turks appeared before the sitting Magistrate, accompanied by an interpreter, to complain against a member of the University of Cambridge who had purchased goods from them at Cambridge to the value of ten pounds, promised payment on a future day, repeatedly disappointed them, and finally persuaded them to escort his young woman to the White Horse Cellar, Piccadilly, promising to follow and pay them. He never came. His address, written on a slip of paper which the Turks produced, was on Wandsworth Common. The Magistrate remarked that the collegian had "killed two birds with one stone — he had disburdened himself of his creditor and his mistress at once."
