Bit of a long shot but, back in the 60's Wandsworth council moved everyone out of our street, Jews Row. by wandsworth bridge. At the time they used a brochure showing what they called a slum (our house) and a picture of the shiny news housing that was supposed to replace it (they never did build houses on that street). I'd love to get hold of a copy of the brochure if anyone has it. Probably around 1964/5 ish

This is the view of East Hill Estate that we had from our balcony at Milford House. The railway runs across at the bottom where there was a passage that went through to Eltringham School. I love visiting this site. As an ex Battersea boy who lives in deepest Wiltshire these days I often hanker back to my roots – especially Battersea Park which was my playground. I used to live in Henley Street which eventually got demolished and made way for Jay Court and a childrens school. Anyhow we moved to Atkinson House – down the road from Henley Street and it became Austin Road – what a load of tosh with the renaming of the streets!!!!

Bob PavittThat shop on the corner of old York road and Fairfield street has been like that for over 35 years.
Amba OakleyBob Pavitt Yes!! I moved away in 1978 and I think it was already boarded up a few years later when I visited my parents in the 1980s 😅
Peter William BurdenBob Pavitt yes, it has been closed since about late 1980’s. It was run by an elderly gentleman and only opened Saturdays.
John MurphyLoved that shop. Lovely man that ran it. Regularly visited on a Saturday in pre and post CD days. Great return system too. Look what they done to our song ma part endless!
Ciarán O'DonovanJohn MurphyI remember it like that. I suspect it was victim of the new York road by pass. There's nowhere to stop and not many walk around that corner in guessing. Can't believe it's still empty.
Steve LeahyWas a great second hand shop. Also seemed to have a good selection of Japanese releases, with OBIs. His price stickers were removed by him lowering an articulated desk lamp onto the sleeve for a few mins!!
Beverley SinclairSteve Leahy thanks for that, do you know what happened to the owner or who owns the shop now. I'm just trying to get some history on it thanks
Steve LeahyBeverley Sinclair I don't, I'm afraid. I've not lived in SW18 for over 30yrs, he was an older chap when I used to visit and I can't remember when I first noticed it closed. It wasn't open every day when he was open.

This is where I spent my childhood, (during the 60's till the 80's) the second block, ground floor, 2 bedroom flat, with a little garden to the back. We had a huge communal garden too. Which was great for Guy Fawkes Night, as everybody brought out fireworks. We had a huge bonfire that we all used to burn our Guy's on. There was always someone to play with, and we had the lovely common across the road.
